Why write a blog?

Writing music has been a hobby of mine for a number of years, and I have been in a couple of bands along the way, but have never thought of taking it any further. Last year, however, I decided to send some of my songs to the UK Songwriting Contest, just to see what happened, and was delighted when five of my tracks made it to the Semi-Final stage! (You can view the certificates by clicking on the link to the left and typing in my name.) This inspired me to take things a step further and invest in some up-to-the-minute production gear, to try and bring my tunes up to the standard they need to be to be able to sell them. I am still very much learning how to make tracks sound professional enough to sell, but feel I am making progress with each new track I produce. I have had some really positive feedback so far (including a 75% approval rating on Broadjam) and this has encouraged me to continue.

I currently work full time as a civil servant and am hoping to soon go part-time to focus more of my time on producing music. I am principally responding to licensing requests on Broadjam at the moment but am also looking to sell songs to other artists. This site will record my experiences of submitting music as I go, to hopefully give some insights into establishing a career in music. I’d welcome people’s feedback into how I can improve.
